I'm Rob and I'm hugely passionate about human centered design
I'm an experienced designer passionate about human-centred design and growing design communities that people want to be part of.
I've worked across design and development, as a front-end developer, digital designer, interaction designer and in my latest role as a Design Operations lead.
Over the last 6 months (since Sept 2022) my main focus has been on improving tooling and processes to help our design community deliver quality accessibile products and services. I have also focussed a lot on designer career pathways and supporting development of new talented people.

Skills i've learned in my career
I have built up an array of skills over my career that have been picked up in the different organisations and cultures along the way
- In-depth and emotional understanding of user-centered design, creating user focused, accessible digital information and transactional services.
- Lead design process within multi-disciplinary delivery teams working in 2 week sprints and manage stakeholder expectations. Help drive and champion the work of delivery teams and support team members in work and support their wellbeing.
- Strong technical knowledge and experience of rapidly prototyping with sketches, Figma, Google Suite, Sketch and the GOV.UK prototyping kit using HTML / CSS and JS.
- Proficient with Github, utilising version control software to maintain and quality assure code. Experienced using Heroku and Cloud Platform technology to host prototypes.
- Champion use of design systems, utilising components and patterns to build consistent and accessible government digital services.
- Create and iterate on high quality designs using evidence based research and data to track interactions and points of failure to improve the user experience and remove complexity from services, especially for vulnerable users.
- Led on the collaboration and submission of a cross government design component with DWP, Cabinet Office and Scot Gov and submitted to GDS Design System
- Coached and developed junior colleagues in design. Managed a Cabinet Office fast streamer in their third year placement helping to onboard them remotely and place them into delivery teams where they could develop into Senior Civil Servants
- Coordinate and lead on cross Government community based initiatives.Such as the Cross Government Buddy Group that creates collaborationand networking opportunities between designers across local and central Government.
- Follow trends and advancements in user centred design and able to understand how these impact on user behaviour. Promote new technical and design research articles across the Design Community to share knowledge across the profession.
